If this idea gets off the ground, I see this going one of three basic directions, and I wonder which way you envision it when you hear about liberty island? Please briefly explain your vision of either A, B, C or D ( feel free to just modify the descriptions below). I am currently an advocate of A and will defend that scenario to someone who would be for it, but thinks it not realistic.
C: (easiest to get off the ground)
A personally expensive venture, where one is expected to invest large sums of up-frount cost. On an island where all(most) citizens hold permanent residence. This new micro-nation is for at least for the first 10 years very sparsely populated (approx. 50-100) with a simple casual island lifestyle and culture (tropical paradise).
In this emerging micro-nation, the populous mainly imports global technology (which they share as a community) with relatively minimal trade relationships with outsiders, and with a general trade goal of sustenance. External revenues on the island are driven by industries such as small scale tourism and mining operations.
Homes are spacious, made of recycled, local & cheap materials arranged in a rural spread. Free-held true private owned land is the main appeal. Community buildings are placed on a single parcel providing only basic communal functions(most are expected to be covered privately). Major transportation is provided by walking, ATV, and boat. Defensive organization is an armed citizenry with a basic communication network.
B: (started by a common foundation, corporation or commune)
High upfront cost to a common organization with somewhat proportioned cost to individuals . Individual costs also somewhat mitigated by common shares in a communal export industry (likely mining or specialty-item production). Citizenship is granted to permanent residences only, but there is a continuos pool of outside supporters waiting to gain residence and thus citizenship.
The island would be populated slowly from members of the general organization, and hence growing on the finish of each housing construction project. A Multiple(or single) communal organizations helps share cost of medical, education, housing, communication, power, security, ectra. The culture of this island is community orientated and relatively close nit, highly idealistic with expectations of hard work ethic and commitment (less a tropical paradise, more pioneer orientated).
In this emerging micro-nation, the populous imports all forms of tools of labour and production with modest trade relationship with surrounding and home nations. Economic goals here are profit to expand economic opportunities and the creation of new high level industries to support the community(communities) present on the island.
Homes are simple but average american, made of mix of recycled, local & cheap materials and modern building techniques. The layout is town like, with some rural areas. A community upholding the ideals of freedom and liberty is the main appeal. Community buildings(though perhaps a group more than single entity) are centrally located and provide an expanding amount of services(and mainly help to direct privately operated ventures and operations). Major transportation is provided by walking, ATV, and boat. Defensive organization is an armed citizenry with a basic communication network, as well as an organized militia.
A: (started by multi-organization coalition, piggy-backing funds and innovations of many related projects )
An organized movement, codified in multiple organizations, which seeks to raise most fund through a series of commercialize approaches, minimizing upfront costs to members. Citizenship is freestanding(most are dual citizens) and most(a sum of) citizen hold permanent residence in another home country. This micro-nation would have a dynamic(seasonal) population and relatively large citizen base with diverse appeals and ambitions, though made common by a somewhat manufactured culture(designed, promoted and recruited).
Developments would be proposed as centre of new generation infrastructure build and owned by an array of self-committed organizations as according to common agreed plan and schedule. The common economic goals would be ambitious, and seek to compete in a global market quickly (develop industry first, nation second). The industries would be focused on key problems of upstart development: personalize energy, water treatment, efficient construction, people management, ectra...The micro-nation would service more as a foresighted administrative hub, not as a production-market centre(least by design). Public access goals would seek to match western style governments with serious revision of philosophy(to the libertarian message) through membership organizing an array of private organizations (both synergetic and competitive) to commit to meet commonly set goals.
Initial homes would be proposed as ultra modern high-density design serviced by the new generation infrastructure (including high-yield indoor agriculture). Most land would generally be owned by citizenship, with initial laws to prevent mass purchase, and with pre-purchase agreements on public access, restrictions and protected areas (zoning protections). All land and air would seek to be privately held. Major transportation would proposed as modern(to be defined in planning) but privately held with agreements on public access/convertability. The defensive organization would be a publicly armed and trained resident citizenry with publicly funded modern equipment. |
